speaking gigs

november was…liberating, luxurious + luminous

The past 30 days brought some grandiose gifts: I secured a book deal with Random House (!), and experienced a game-changing speaking gig with Rich Happy & Hot LIVE. And the champagne is still flowing. Here are the highlights:

articles + illuminations

: when it’s time to stop healing and bust outta purgatory (and what my crush on ed harris has to do with enlightenment). Jumping for joy can be counter-intuitive when you've been despairing long term. If you're languishing in Bardo — that liminal space between death and rebirth — maybe it's time to declare that you have decided to live. DON'T WAIT FOR HEALING TO BEGIN. Bust out, over and onward.

: the declaration of deserving. I've been asking around: "What do you think you're entitled to?" "What do you know that you deserve?" My take: you are worthy of your desires. Really wanting what you want gives you the power to get it. Read THE DECLARATION OF DESERVING...just because you're here.

: rich, happy & hot advice: surrender, act now, just breathe. Some party favors from my recent trip to NYC for Rich Happy & Hot LIVE. Marie Forleo put on an impeccable show, and made it all flow like a chilled glass of coconut water. If you missed the event — or even if you didn't — here's my RICH, HAPPY & HOT RECAP.

interviews + spotlight shining

: the radical practical for natural dreamers. I've got some news, and it might sting: passion is not enough. Love and art have an ROI. You need to systemize, scrutinize, and get uptight — at least temporarily. A guest-article for Marie Forleo. Because OPPORTUNISM + TALENT EXPLOITATION can still be rooted in integrity.

: criticism sucks, or does it? how to manage it with dignity. A contribution to Talent Zoo, a mega-hub for careers in advertising, marketing and digital media. How to approach your criticizer with compassion, get closure, and yeah — LICK YOUR WOUNDS.

: the netsetter: interview. Thursday Bram of The Netsetter series at Work Awesome interviewed me on time management and proportion, creative bubbles, CURIOSITY + OBSESSION. And looky here — the feature got tagged by USA Today. All in a day's work.

sightings + meet-ups

> Vancouver, BC: Saturday, January 22, 2011
I'm co-hosting Chris Guillebeau's release party for The Art of Non-Conformity. Stay tuned.

> Portland, Oregon: June 3 - 5, 2011
World Domination Summit with Chris Guillebeau. This is going to be a total love fest of activators and friends! It's ALREADY 80% sold out so get on it.

And off we go into December, friends. Go deep. Stay light.

I get around: november report

I was inspired by my friend, the Communicatrix's "What's up" list and thought I'd let you know, well, what's been up.

TELEVISION
I'm the "Career Fire Starter" contributor on Connect with Mark Kelly (CBC TV National). Canadians can tune in at 7 to 9pm East Coast time on Wednesdays for my bit (the show is daily and it's great.) Everyone else, you can watch the segments online!

Click on these links to watch my recent segments (about 4 minutes each):
: Do you hate your job?
: Busting out of 9 to 5

INTERVIEWS
: The muse of Polaroids, Susannah Conway did a great "My Creative Life" interview with me.
: Kelley Diels from Cleavage asked me and a bunch of blogging bookphiles how to get a book deal for Write To Done, where I bitch repetitively about how Jurassic the publishing industry is.
: Life coach Tanya Geilser asked me to tell her some truth and lies. I left out the lies.
: My CBC TV bio lists 11 Things To Know About Me, like...#4. I've never had a cup of coffee. Not even a sip - for no particular reason. and #5. I have a phobia of anesthesia.
: And in case you missed it, I did an audio interview for the Red Lipstick Report.

OTHER PEOPLE'S COOL WORKSHOPS
: I took a two day Transformational Speaking Workshop with the master herself, Gail Larsen. I'll definitely be writing more about what I learned, and felt (because my learning was to feel more, think less...) but do check out her new book in the meantime. She's a teacher's teacher and I'm indebted to her insight and love.
: Gwen Bell, voted one of the "50 Most Powerful Women in Social Media" came to Vancouver to do her Mind Body Tech workshop, and over lunch we got an extra heaping of her social web expertise.

PHILANTHROPY
: Everyone should have a 100 Friends Project, like this one started by my friends Yasmina Zaidman and Marlowe Greenberg. 100 friends. $100 bucks each = $10,000 for 1 charity. This round, we're giving to Women for Afghan Women.

FIRE STARTER SESSIONS
I'm booking into mid January for Fire Starter one-on-ones. Email me directly if you want to do a session.

MORE GLAMOR FOR THE ROAD
The talented Anastasia helped me get all Zen and broody in this photo shoot. Meow.

20 bites on what {really} inspires me

{if you're viewing this via and RSS feed, click on the title above to watch the video.}

I adore the concept of Pecha Kucha - you've got 20 slides, at 20 seconds each to talk about what inspires you. The very bright designers at Cause & Effect had the good sense to bring it to Vancouver, and this was filmed last October 08.

So this is me riffing about Julian Schnabel and Dolly Parton; defining divinity; Red Hot Chili Peppers; lack of discipline; and uncompromising intensity.

"I think you know who you are before the world tells you who you shouldn't be." You heard it hear first.

Lovelove,
Danielle

my upcoming speaking gigs: seattle + vancouver, bc

The Crave Symposium, SEATTLE: Monday March 23, 2009
+
The Crave Symposium, VANCOUVER (BC): Monday March 30, 2009

Check it out.

"The Crave Symposium is dedicated to inspiring and educating independent business owners. This one-day event teaches practical skills, offers encouragement, and builds camaraderie. Whether you sell shoes or facials, travel getaway or graphic design, we invite you to join us..."

This is one very cool event, put on by one of my favourite "entreprenesses," Melody Biringer. It'll be packed with great advice and inspiration, and my favourite part, a "live think tank": get the amazing opportunity to have your business brand and strategy brainstormed live on stage by a panel of experts who are rooting for your success and will give you the straight goods on making it happen. Click here to apply.

Ask A Woman Seminar Series, VANCOUVER (BC) Friday + Saturday, April 17+18, 2009

"Meet with renowned authors, experts and leaders in their field {like, say...moi} for 2-days of interactive and affirming self-esteem workshops designed to help YOU get the most out of your life!"
