juicy mind, happy product: a meditation for self promotion

Click here to read Part 1, The secret to self promotion: radiance and the facts, jack - whereby I expressed little sympathy buts lot's of love for people who shy away from self-promotion.

A MEDITATION FOR SELF PROMOTION

Meditation can take many forms. You can write this out in a journal, talk it out with a friend, or do the traditional sitting meditation. You're the master. Either way you choose to tap in, settle your mind and focus: take three deep breaths. Inhale and exhale. Slowly. Fully. (This is going to be fun, BTW. Avoid dry mind. Choose juicy mind.)

PHASE 1
  1. Imagine that you're in an empty room. It's your ideal room, so maybe it's plush and luxy, or austere and Zen. You love it and you're comfortable.
  2. Waiting outside the door to that room is your business, product, service, artwork - whatever you call what you offer for your livelihood. How do you feel knowing that it's outside the door? What is the flavour of your anticipation? Anxious? Smiling? Dread? Blessed and blissy?
  3. Now, invite your business/product/service/artwork to join you. Do it ceremoniously or simply. Notice how you extend the invitation. (Sheepish, commanding, open, playful, hesitantly.) How does your business/product/service/artwork take form? As a ray of light, blueprint plans, a mighty robot, a peacock, a quivering beggar, a pile of gold, crates of bestselling books? How does your business/product/service/artwork feel to you? Just noticing how you extend the invitation and the form that your business/product/service/artwork took will be useful cosmic data. If you want to stop there, do so. Put the mediation on pause and come back to do phase two another day.

    Or, go further...

    PHASE 2
  4. Ask your business/product/service/artwork if it has a message or a gift to give you. Receive it. Notice how you receive it.
  5. Ask your business/product/service/artwork how it would like to be shared with the world. You may hear or see specific strategies (like, "e-books in the Fall,") or you may just feel the how, like, feelings of integrity, innovation, steadiness.
  6. Now, (and this is important) let your business/product/service/artwork enter into you. You can breathe it in, you can imagine opening your heart and it climbing in, you can envision jacking into it and downloading it into your cells like an electrical current. The point here: you and your business/product/service/artwork are entwined and grooving together - unison.
  7. Now, just...glow. Radiate. Vibrate. Hum your sonic powah, baby. Envision your creative light making it's way into the world effortlessly and being received with great appreciation.
Allow the ease. Honour the excitement and intensity. Say thank you.

Could you make a MP3 guided meditation out of this one? That way I wouldn't have to peak and I'd put it on my Ipod to do it daily!
  • hmmmm.... good idea. stay tuned.
  • Totally fits the flow and *allowing* I'm trying to... allow in my my life and business.

    Many many thanks.
  • Danielle, I officially endorse the expression "feel the how." Just hearing it echo in my mind is putting a big grin on my face. :-D
  • I just gave this a go... and it was amazingly powerful and transformational. I realized that I had some issues with not being "cool enough" for my business/art/service... where that came from, I don't know. But I'm feeling amazing being at one with my business/service/art now! Thank you so much for sharing this!

yowzah. powerful stuff there, mi lady...
  • This is fantastic, Danielle. I will definitely be trying this! I love the part about visualizing your business entering into you. Brilliance.
  • YES!! I loved this exercise! My business was a goddess dripping in jewels. Her message was like a soft breeze caressing my shoulders and she wanted to be shared with the world as an offering. Like a worship to the divine. Humming away...
  • That was fun Danielle, and timely. Passion and will united are healing my body and paving new roads for my service and art and this meditation gave me a new focus THANKS!
  • Love this!!!
  • You stole my comment!
  • Love it! Such a great way to tap insights not lurking in the day-to-day logical mind.

I did something similar to this in a relationship coaching course in Paris last year. I wasn't interested in doing one of the exercises with an actual person in mind, so I chose to coach my relationship with my business.

This revealed new perspectives and insights that were powerful. Like alligator kate, I was able to relax a little and not feel so much pressure.

Thanks for the great post and new way of playing with my business!
  • Feeling a bit buzzy after that...wow. Brilliant. Thanks, Danielle.

girlfriend, your fabulous shi* is rockin' my world of insight into myself and my business. i am freaking out about so many exxciting opportunities opening in my heart and about to flow to my clients. my work is a serious passion down to my utmost core. i RADIATE when i talk and my clients feel it. please come to austin, texas and visit with a group of us white hot texas chicks!!! and thank you for your real words.
  • OOOW This is so wonderful. can I play? Maybe a phase 3: Ask what it needs from you to show up fully in the world? What does it need from you to trust that you will support it?
  • Like Duff, the title threw me off at first. But then I appreciated it once I realized that while I appear bold to some, I do shy away from self-promotion. And yet, how can I share my gift with the world if the world doesn't know I'm here and what I have to offer. In the end, it's not me that's being promoted at all, but my gift that is being made accessible to all who can benefit. Wow!
  • Fun. I love it. Mine said 'slow down. Enjoy the process. Don't just be thinking about the future. Look at what you have already created. And have fun with what you are doing right now.' Thanks Biz.
  • I enjoyed this, and hopefully gained some insight. At least I have in mind what the next Caddyinfo.com logo should look like lol. I think I do need more thought on what my expectations are -- how to define success along the way. Yay.
  • Fun indeed!

We do so much work with "Future Self" visualizations in coaching...wonder what a "Future business/product/service/artwork" visualization would reveal? What is it 10 years from now? What's it becoming right now? What advice would it give its fledgling self? Uh oh...trippy.

    As ever, thank YOU.
  • How about we take this beyond self-promotion of our products/business/whatever and instead use it to promote ourselves (like our personalities)? That is, instead of envisioning your product as being received well, why not envision yourself as being received well? That way, you get a great reception whether your business/art/product is there or not. And life becomes more exciting when you're glowing all the time and not just doing so when you're self promoting.
  • I thought the title was ironic. Silly me.

It's not a half-bad visualization, but is there a "self" to promote?
  • ooo. clevah, grasshopper. i like.
