YES on Natalie Goldberg's Writing Down the Bones, she's wonderful. I also love Rita Mae Brown's Starting From Scratch (may be out of print?) These two plus Bird by Bird are all-time favorites.

Just about to finish this one myself. Looking forward to some of her other books, Traveling Mercies and Grace. Considering Natalie Goldberg also (Writing Down the Bones). Anyone read her work? I've heard mixed reviews, from "great" to a little too.... abstract I guess.

this book walks us through truth and words. it is a gem. it is the little glow left in a busted lighbulb. it is the sound of wind when you are dry and sweating. thank you for reminding me. i will dig it up and read it again.
